Joel's family arrived in the then-fledgling state of Arizona five generations ago. Raised in Scottsdale, Joel left the state for college before joining the Marines. He served as an infantry officer, leading and training teams ranging in size from 40 to 150. Across the years and several cross-country moves, Arizona has always been home.
After leaving active duty in 2020, Joel married the love of his life, went back to school, and—after graduating—finally returned home. He and his wife Julianna live in Scottsdale, surrounded by family.
Favorite Arizona pasttime
Summer hiking in the White Mountains—especially Escudilla, Mt. Baldy, and the West Fork of the Little Colorado.
